How Lone Star Venting Solutions Helped Modernize a University’s Heating System

The Challenge

Providing commercial boiler flue, grease duct and generator exhaust equipment throughout the Texas region, Lone Star Venting Solutions serves contractors, engineers, building owners and managers with their most challenging venting obstacles. Texas AirSystems, in partnership with Infinity Contractors, brought in the Lone Star team to assist with a unique venting project for Texas Christian University’s Waites Hall, a popular dormitory with more than 200 students.

Waites Hall required a new common vent system, but a low-clearance boiler room made the new system a tight fit. It needed to be efficient and safe while maintaining draft requirements and regulations despite the limited space.

The Solution

Lone Star Venting Solutions has long partnered with Schebler Chimney Systems, relying on its factory-engineered venting and stacks to overcome challenges other manufacturers cannot. After closely examining Waites Hall’s venting issues and requirements, Schebler’s eVent® series was identified as the solution. This prefabricated venting system is ideal for venting high-efficiency appliances that require a positive, neutral or negative draft exhaust, and only a minimum amount of clearance is needed for installation.

A modular, double-wall vent was installed in the boiler room that transitioned to a single-wall product routed in the shaft. This lowered material costs and installation time and reduced space requirements. In order to maintain draft requirements, Enervex SMDS dampers and a RSV-400 from were incorporated into the design.

With this specialized solution supported by best-in-class manufacturer product lines, all of the appliances were able to be effectively vented within the same vent system, efficiently providing hot water and heat to Waites Hall for students and staff.
